"L'Oiseau Bleu"

D.M. Le Bris copyright 2013

Spring is finally here.
I created this painting to celebrate it.
Winter has been too long this year!
I used bee's wax and color pigments,
shellac, shellac inks, India ink and transfers.

"Les Marquises - Hiva-Oa"

D.M.Le Bris Copyright 2013

I have been thinking about the Marquesas Islands these past weeks.
The winter has been long and I yearn for warmth.
I had the chance to travel to French Polynesia in 2000
where I stayed and painted for 3 months.
It was a dream come true to live in Hiva-Oa
where Paul Gauguin spent the last 3 years of his life.
I was able to understand his fascination
with the Maori people and their culture.
The red, orange and green are a gift from Gauguin,
The Tiki and hibiscus are a gift from the islands.
