New Website

 

 

 I haven't posted for quite a while, 
I have been very busy creating new work.
All my encaustic tools have now been put aside but
I plan to paint with hot wax again soon.  
My new website is now online;  

Its design is simple and easy to navigate. 

The portfolio of my work is separated into five collections.

1) Oil and Cold Wax on Paper
2) Oil and Cold Wax on Panel.
3) Encaustic on Paper.
4) Encaustic on Panel.
5) Small Work.

I forgot how strong the odor of oil paint was….

My studio is next to my bedroom and
the odor is creeping under the door.
Waking up during the night I want to open the door,
go in and start a new painting.
Is that a good sign? I think so...
It is interesting but, whatever abstract mark I make
I always end up with some kind of landscape.
So, I guess I need to go with the flow...
Abstraction will come when it is ready...
Middle of the night project...Still in progress.
My first try on "oil paper"..

On Strathmore 18" x 24" mixed media pad,

I painted with Oil and Cold Wax
and came up with these three paintings.

 My goal was to create three atmospheric abstracted landscapes.

They were a challenge but, I believe they work well together. 

Unfortunately when I pulled the blue painter's tape off 

it ripped some of the paper around the paintings...

  I"ll  have to mat and frame them  

or mount them on a cradled board, separately.

I spent the afternoon working on these two paintings.

I was experimenting with cold wax and oil paint.
Mixing together the cold wax and the oil paint - 50/50 ratio.

In the past I have used Encaustic (hot bees wax with oil pigments)
 which is a very different technique.

I find cold wax very challenging but exciting at the same time.

It is going to take a while for me to master this new medium.

I haven't posted for a while, life got in the way!

 I put away my encaustic paints and my favorite torch for a while 

and began playing with oil and cold wax...

Here are 2 experiments on mixed media paper. 

They are on the same paper, 

not sure if I should separate them 

forcing them to be single!  

 Should I or Should'nt I ?

I saw a raven in my garden!

Beautiful, large bluish black bird.

I always wanted to paint a raven so.... here "He" is!

"Le Jardin"

I have always been fascinated by gardens

 hidden behind walls. 

I saw them in France and in England as a child. 

So much mystery! 

 In my studio, I painted this encaustic painting

 drawing upon my memories. 

I used encaustic (hot bee's wax and mixed media) 

oil pigments, imagery, drawing, 

tree stamp/seal and many layers of wax.

"Love Birds"

The snow covers the ground, 

the wind is howling and the temperature is below zero...

I am longing for warmer weather,

in my garden,

 where I can listen and watch

all the beautiful, colorful birds.

In my studio I created this painting

 while thinking

of the yellow finches of summer's past.

"Libellules"

I have a small pond in my backyard. 

During the summer I can enjoy watching the delicate dragonflies 

flying gracefuly above the water. 

 They come in many shape, form and colors. 

They were my inspiration for this encaustic painting I titled "Libellules" 

which is the French translation for Dragonflies.

"Coquelicots"

Poppies are  elegant but so fragile while dancing in the wind.

"Coquelicots" is their French translation.

Red flowers sparingly dotting the green landscapes

 were a familiar site in my country walks, during my chidhood.

Those memories were my inspiration for this painting.

Looking at it, I can actually feel the breeze caressing the petals.

"Welcoming the Moon"

After an early walk in the mountain 

I was inspired to create this painting.

The air was fresh, the moon still in the sky 

and the yellow flowers seemed to welcome the morning, 

saying goodbye to the fading moon.

"Le Hibou de Tonton Francois #4"

Just finished this painting for the open studio
on Columbus Day Weekend. 

The imagery has a history close to my heart.
As a young man, my uncle Francois had an owl as a pet. 

He adored it just like he loved his bee's
- hives were hiding in the field. 

This painting was done in his honor. 

I have done another version of this painting
but this one is the largest so far.
