"Pompeii"

#3

This is the final step of the painting.
I decided to turn it upside down.
I like its story-telling quality better.
Some details still need to be worked on,
mostly in the red mountain shape, in the lower portion.
I find this area too transparent.
"Pompeii" seems a very appropriate title for this painting.
Please, watch the video I linked to about Pompeii.

"Brittany Landscape"

©2008 D.M. Le Bris
SOLD

As a child, I spent my summer vacations in Brittany, France.
It is a land of dramatic landscapes, mystery, magic and dark legends.
One legend among thousands says Merlin is imprisoned in Broceliande's forest, trapped by Vivianne the Fay (Lady of the Lake). The Broceliande forest is located in central Brittany near the town of Paimpont.

In this painting I tried to capture Brittany's dramatic landscapes, mystery, magic and legends.

"Parting of the Red Sea"

©2008 D.M. Le Bris

I struggled with the title of this painting.
First I called it "Red Sea,"
then "Tornado."
I felt very unsatisfied with these titles.
I finally came up with "Parting of the Red Sea."
I think it is perfect for this piece.

"Medieval City"

©2008 D.M. Le Bris

I always loved medieval cities.
As a French school girl my family and I would visit old ramparts and castles during weekends and holidays. It was a very special time for me.
I was such a dreamer, my imagination would always run wild.
When walking through the small streets I always felt surrounded by mystery.
The old stones of the buildings seemed to have absorbed all the past habitants' secrets,
century after century.
What were those secrets?

I used watercolor, acrylic and oil pastel on watercolor paper.

"Wet Land"

©2008 D.M. Le Bris

I was thinking of Brittany, France, when I created this painting.
As a child I spent my summer vacations there at my uncle's farm.
Every night, before supper,
my cousins and I would have to bring the cows home.
I remember having to walk and run through wet fields
until we found the cows.
We played and laughed all the way,
and on many nights we came home soaking wet
and covered in mud.

Acrylic on watercolor paper. I used a palette knife.

"Sous le Pont Neuf"

I wanted to be "extremely" loose while creating this painting. I used a limited palette in acrylic on watercolor paper. My tools were a brush and a palette knife. I like the way it turned out.

"Passionate Sky"

©2008 D.M. Le Bris

This is a color study done in acrylic on watercolor paper.
I was thinking of the sea and its agitated sky, a passionate sky.
This is mostly from my imagination - it is not a real place.
I do like to create imaginary landscapes fueled by memories of past experiences.

"Watching the Sunset"

This painting is 4"x 5".

I used acrylic on watercolor paper with a limited palette.
I am attempting to create atmosphere in my present body of work.
This is one of the first pieces of the series which ended up as my Christmas card for 2007.
